Guangzhou Grace Academy Vision Statement

Preparing Young People for Time and Eternity

Guangzhou Grace Academy was established to assist families in the exciting and awesome task of preparing children for life - both this life and the life to come.  Jesus Christ says, “I have come that you might have life and have it abundantly.”  With Christ’s ideal of selfless love as our guide, we seek to inspire each child to strive toward his/her unique and God-given calling.

Admissions Policy

GGA admits students who hold foreign passports or foreign residence permits.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, athletics and other school-administered programs.

GGA is a Christian school.  This means that we seek to be faithful followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  All our staff has professed faith in Christ and it is our desire to see our students make similar commitments.  Though non-Christian families are welcome to attend, we want to make our Christian stance clear.  If you have concerns about this issue please talk with the principal or any of our staff.

GGA seeks to enroll students from families which support the individualized learning system and who are prepared to be team players in the education for their children, and provide a godly home environment to maintain congruency between home and school.  Parents are encouraged to have a daily family devotions time and to be active in the supervision of their child's work.

(*) Exceptions to this policy may be made if students are transferring from another Christian school with similar values and curriculum, and/or who demonstrate outstanding Christian character and mastery of English.

AGE & GRADE POLICIES

  • Pre Kindergarten (K4) - 4 years old by September 1.
  • Kindergarten (K5) – 5 years old by September 1.
  • ABCs/First Grade 6 years old by September 1 (minimum 5½ years old).  Children MUST also pass the Reading Readiness Test.
  • Grade 2 - 12.  Children who are 7 years old and above are diagnosed individually and prescribed course work according to their true performance level rather than age/grade level.

Children 9 years old and up whose first language is not English must take an English proficiency test.  If they diagnose more than 2 years behind their chronological grade level they will not be admitted, unless a special non-graduation (ESL) program is desired.  Parents will be required to sign an enrollment acceptance letter in this case.   The ESL fee is charged to these and any other students receiving special help in the English as a Second Language program.

 Practical Information

Ø    The yearly tuition fee appear in the schedule below.  The annual tuition may be paid in 2 or 4 installments.   The tuition fee covers everything except lunches, the school uniform and snacks and drinks that children buy on field trips.   Transportation to school on the school bus routes is partially subsidized.

Ø    The school hours are from 8:30 to 3:00, Monday through Friday.

Ø    Currently there is a bus route that picks up children in the Tianhe area & Clifford Estates area.  If we have at least 5 students living in another area of Guangzhou we can arrange a new bus route.

Ø    LUNCH: Children may bring their own lunch, which can be heated in a microwave oven.  A lunch ordering service is normally provided also from a local catering service.  Parents can order this service at the beginning of each month.

Ø    The uniform is obligatory for all students every day.  It should be purchased through the school.

Ø    Before enrolling in Grace Academy, new students take diagnostic tests to determine their true performance level in every subject.  Students will be prescribed curriculum according to the results of this test rather than their age or grade.

Ø    To help ensure mastery learning a minimum score of 88% (90% for kindergarten and lower learning center) on PACE tests is required before a student is allowed to advance to the next PACE (a workbook containing a unit of curriculum).

Ø     We may offer basic oral Chinese for children in our Kindergarten and Lower Learning Centers.  Older children may receive individualized material in Chinese tailored to the needs and requirements of each family.

Ø    Grace Academy’s small student body and low teacher/student ratio provide an excellent environment for training children.  Character training, learning skills, interpersonal relationships, and much more all find an ideal setting in our family-style environment.
